Private hydrants are a critical component of fire protection for many commercial and multifamily properties.
Who is responsible?
The property's owner or responsible party must ensure that the private fire hydrant and associated fire protection piping are maintained, tested and accessible. The department's published guidance references NFPA 25 for inspection, testing and maintenance.
Inspection and documentation
Use a qualified, appropriately licensed company in Georgia for required work. Retain inspection records at the property and submit applicable inspection, testing and maintenance (ITM) records to the department through the required First Due process.
Private hydrant guide
The department has published a detailed hydrant information document for owners and contractors.

The original guide is a Word document. A tested accessible HTML or PDF alternative should be made available before launch.
