Annual Inspection

The Covington Fire Department conducts annual fire inspections to ensure that local businesses, residential complexes, and public buildings comply with fire safety codes. What to Expect

Fire Extinguishers

- Proper type and number for the occupancy

- Correct mounting height

- Inspection tags up to date(within last 12 months)

- Easily accessible and visible

Fire Alarm Systems

- Annual Inspection and testing records available

- System functioning properly

- Audible/visual alarms work

Storage of Combustibles

- Proper storage of flammable or hazardous materials

- Clearance from heat sources and exits

- No storage in mechanical or electrical rooms

Emergency Plans

- Fire evacuation plans posted and current

- Staff trained on fire safety procedures

- Fire drills conducted and documented

Commercial Cooking Hood

- Cleaning and maintenance. Cleaning tag or report is visible. 

- Fire Suppression system has current inspection tag.

- Fire extinguisher has a current tag and within 5ft of hood. 

Exits

- Exit doors unlocked and unobstructed

- Exit sign illuminated and functional

- Emergency lighting works

- Clear pathways to all exits

Electrical Safety

- No overloaded power strips or extension cords

- Panels labeled and accessible

- No open junction boxes or exposed wiring

Sprinkler Systems

- Inspection tags up to date

- Control valves open and accessible

- No obstructions around sprinkler heads

Fire Department Access

- Fire lanes marked and clear

- Building address clearly visible from the street

- Knox Box present and up to date

General Housekeeping

- Trash, oily rags, and debris disposed of properly

- Equipment and areas clean and maintained

- No excessive clutter blocking access or ventilation
