Hydrant Information
Private fire hydrants play a vital role in protecting lives and property by ensuring quick access to water in the event of a fire. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 25), a private fire hydrant refers to the piping and components located on private property, running between the designated water source and the building’s fire protection system. This system typically begins at the manually operated valve installed by the public water utility, often located near the property line at the master meter.
To ensure these hydrants remain reliable and code-compliant, all inspections, maintenance, and testing must be performed by a licensed and qualified company within the State of Georgia. Additionally, property owners are responsible for keeping accurate inspection records on site and uploading them to the First Due (ITM) system. These records must be made available at any time for review by the Covington Fire Marshal’s Office.
